6 Weeks

Ok...so I missed posting for week 5. My mom was visiting but did I take advantage of that time to do anything productive? No. No, I did not. But here's a picture of Devin with his Nanna wearing the adorable sweater that Cat's boss Carol made knitted for him.

And now that I've used a baby picture to distract you all from my laziness let's see what Baby Center has to say about week 6:

"Now that your baby's awake for longer periods during the day, you can use these times to support his sensory development. Try singing your favorite lullabies or playing music.

Your baby may not be able to talk yet, but his face is sure telling you a lot. He's experimenting with different facial expressions — pursing his lips, raising his eyebrows, widening or squinting his eyes, and furrowing his brow."

Yep and yep. Today I took Devin with me to pick up the groceries and he got good and mad while we were waiting because, you know, the car wasn't moving and WOE AND AGONY! To try to calm him down I turned on some music. First I tried some new agey stuff and he wailed louder. So then I tried some classical to no avail. I kept flipping through channels and testing them out until I landed on a Sinatra song (his version of Paper Moon) and suddenly Devin stopped crying. So now I'm very curious about his musical tastes and I will be playing more for him this week to see how he responds.

I've yet to be able to capture a picture of Devin smiling but he has been doing so (and not just because of gas). This is, in my opinion, the best milestone EVER. Well, ok....another fantastic milestone is "sleeping through the night" and I am hoping we are also well on our way to that. Devin has fairly consistently been sleeping in at least one five hour chunk every night and last night he hit six hours. Please cross your fingers that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with the sandman.

Heh, I love it when babies look like grumpy old men. :) He's definitely rockin' the knitted gear.
