7 Weeks
For at least the first year of Dax's life I remember tracking oodles of milestones. First time rolling from front to back, first time rolling from back to front, first time to sit up unassisted, first time to crawl, first time to walk, first word, first tooth....and on and on and on. It is not all that different this time around with the exception that I'm far less nervous about the whole thing. Which is good. Especially considering the milestone Devin just hit.
He has his first cold. Which brought with it his first ear infection. Which resulted in his first dose of antibiotics. In other words? He's very......leaky.
He doesn't seem completely miserable most of the time. Nights are difficult because neither of us are sleeping very well. I mean, nobody sleeps all that well with a seven-week-old baby in the house but it is especially challenging when that baby is congested and unhappy.
We found out when we had to take him in the doctor that he weighs 12 pounds and 12 ounces. His next appointment is, I think, on the 20th when he'll get his first shots and get that ear rechecked.
This week saw a lot more smiles and experimental noise making. He's also had a tiny bit more time on the floor to flail and kick although he definitely prefers to be held. Cat got to give him his first bottle and he took it just fine. Cat also got to spend some time with the kid when he wasn't crying. See, Cat doesn't usually get home until The Witching Hour when Devin is fussing and eating non-stop. If you don't lactate and it is between the hours of about 5PM and around 8PM? My son wants nothing to do with you.
Here's a picture of him pre-illness when I was able to capture an enormous grin with the camera. I took this early in the week and the kid has already changed.
