He's Three!

Summer is big for birthdays so, for a few months at least, Dax has been telling everyone that he's three. And because of his natural contrary nature, I was not surprised in the least when I wished him a happy birthday this morning and he told me that today he turns two.

*sigh*

Yes, our baby is three. Which is....well, not a baby anymore. It is bittersweet, of course, because my baby is soooo grown up but it has been so much fun watching him get to this point.

To add to my "my baby is growing up" eekage? We went to Back to School Night last night where we were informed that he is no longer in preschool (he's in prekindergarten), that he'd be learning to write this year, that he'd have homework from time to time, and that he'll be learning to play the piano. How awesome is that? But again...the growing up. Must it happen so fast?

Tonight we'll celebrate quietly as he opens the presents from family and then on Sunday we're having The Big Bash at My Gym with all his little friends (and their parents, of course). Check back for pictures.

And feel free to share your happy birthday greetings with the boy here. I promise to read them all to him. :)

Weirdness

Dax is sick again. Sort of. I mean, he's definitely sick because he threw up when we got home from school. But you wouldn't know it because he just announced that he was hungry and that he wanted breakfast. Against my best judgment, I've just let him eat Crispix and a banana. I really hope I don't have to review that decision later.

It is so weird when he gets sick. If I had just blown chunks like he did, I'd be in bed moaning and complaining. He cried a bit (but only because some of it came out of his nose) and then voiced strong displeasure over the bathing process but once I had him dressed and deposited on the couch he acted like nothing had ever happened.

When he was sick in July, I caught it as well. I'm really hoping that will not be the case this time around. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

2 going on 16

Yesterday I came home to a note from Cat that said, "NO COMPUTER FOR DAX." It then detailed the offense our son had committed to earn such a punishment. Within seconds of my reading the note, Dax was clamoring to get his grubby mits on the laptop.

"No," I firmly explained while pointing at the note. "You don't get to play computer because you weren't listening to daddy this morning. See? It says 'NO COMPUTER FOR DAX'."

He took the note from me and studied it for a moment before saying, "It says Dax CAN play computer. That's what it says." He then gave me his most charming smile. Needless to say, that tactic didn't work.

Speaking of charm? When I picked him up from daycare today Miss Cindi said, "I need to talk to you about your son." She looked very serious so I was a bit nervous about what horrendous behavior he may have decided to share with her. He's usually better behaved at school than at home but perhaps my lucky streak had run out.

"I need to talk to you," she said, "about your son's sexual harrassment."

Wha??????????????

Turns out my innocent little son who has not even turned three yet tried to sweet talk Merissa, Cindi's 16-year-old daughter. He apparently woke up from his nap and greeted her with, "What are you doing, sexy?"

I have NO idea where he got that. Seriously. I am simultaneously mortified and amused.

Merissa is gorgeous and smart and has an awesome personality so the kid has got great taste. He also informed me a few weeks back that she was his girlfriend but I just had no idea that he truly intended to put the moves on her.

We're going to have to keep an eye on him.

Home again, home again

We just got back from our vaction to Colorado, during which we got to tell the whole family that we're pregnant. I think it is safe to say that everyone is excited and just the teensiest bit stunned.

Our trip was wonderful. We got to see everyone we wanted to see with the exception of Neil and Bruce. Not bad, says I.

Dax had a fantastic time playing with all of his cousins and seeing all his family members he rarely gets to see. I've asked him what his favorite part was but between all the playing, the tossing of rocks into a lake, the roasting of marshmallows in a fireplace, the tiny and adorable kitten he got to meet, and the endless amount of attention he got from everyone....well, it is impossible to say.

Here are just a few of my favorite pics. I wish I had room to post more, here, but if you want to see more let me know and I'll send you the snapfish link.
