Christmas Eve Eve

Santa came to Dax's school today. He's the real deal. He let everyone ask him questions today and when I asked if his reindeer are male or female he correctly answered that they are female despite their masculine names. (True. Male reindeer lose their antlers before winter while females keep them until spring.) And when one of the kids asked him how old he was he said that he was very old but that he was related to Saint Nicholas. He even told the kids a bit about ol' St. Nick.

Pictures to come (including the obligatory "baby crying on Santa's lap" shots of Devin over on his page) but I'm not entirely sure when I'll get them up. I'm shooting for tomorrow but I must also confess that I have a mountain of packages to wrap and even some shopping left to do so....yeah.

Merry Christmas everyone! Make sure you leave some yummy cookies for Santa and some carrots for those lovely ladies pulling his sleigh.

More Milestones

With babies you are always tracking milestones. There's the first time they sleep through the night, the first time they roll over, the first tooth....it goes on and on. In fact, we are still tracking major milestones for Dax.

Here is one we didn't expect him to have met by now. It's pretty cool, though.

Please excuse the Blair Witch style videography. The boy, he does not sit still much.

In other news, Dax has earned his first belt in karate. He was beyond excited and proud (as were we). He loves karate but it is not quite enough to keep him busy. He's expressed an interest in both soccer and basketball. He wanted to do soccer first but when I told him that soccer is being played indoors until spring he decided he could wait.

Dax is VERY excited about Christmas this year. Just like last year, Santa will be making an appearance at his preschool. Let's hope it goes well given what we experienced last year.

And since we all know that updates here have been few and far between (which I hope will not be the case once the major project I've been working on at work ends in mid-January) I should probably take this time to wish everyone a very happy holiday and an amazing 2009.

More conversations with Dax

Dax asks me, "Are we rightside up?" I look around to be certain that we haven't suddenly tumbled into a sinkhole or developed narcolepsy and determine that, yes, we do appear to be. When I tell him as much he disagrees with me.

Of course he disagrees with me.

But this time he offers an explanation. He holds one hand in a fist and uses the other hand to mimic a person standing and informs me that we are, in fact, sideways because we are on the SIDE of planet earth.

Well, of course. How could I be so dim?

And for those of you who believe in past lives? Dax says that a long, long time ago we were both babies and I pushed and hit him so our mommy put me in time out. BUT!!! I was STILL naughty so she called the police and they gave me a ticket. But I was STILL NAUGHTY. So the policeman flushed me down the toilet and when I came back up I was nice.

I swear that I have never, ever threatened him with a toilet flushing. (Ok, so I may have told him that a policeman would give him a ticket if he unbuckled his seatbelt before the car stopped moving but that is ABSOLUTELY TRUE.)

He also told me that he picked me to be his mommy because he likes me. And he said that we didn't know Devin when we were babies but that Devin was in Washington and he turned blue and then he got frozen.

Do you notice sort of a bleak pattern here? I thought stories of past lives were supposed to be glamorous. Wasn't I a queen or at least a princess? No. I was flushed down a toilet.

*sigh*

Karate Kid

Dax is still enjoying karate. We go every Monday and Thursday (except for when holidays cause us to reschedule to Wednesdays). Every couple of weeks is a testing day when the kids have to demonstrate what they've learned so they can earn their new belts.

Dax is a white belt but he has earned three stripes which means that, in a couple of weeks, he will be earning his first belt. He's learning Shou Shu so there are 14 belts to earn before black belt. Dax is working toward his low yellow belt.

Here you can see our Little Dragon in action.
